Arrive Early to Sign In

Please arrive 10 minutes at the studio prior to the start time of your class to sign in and get yourself ready. To provide high quality dance classes and prevent any interruptions or distractions, we are not allowing students who arrive 20 minutes beyond class start time. Students arriving late will have to wait for the next sessions.

Dance Competition Policies

Purdance has a set schedule of competitions and outside events that we attend each year. A student’s participation in these events will be determined by their teacher.

  • Students compete at their own risk and must sign a Purdance release form.
  • All students should have a clear understanding of the responsibilities of entering a dance competition. Students must follow the teacher’s preparation plans for competition. These may require, but are not limited to, additional practice time and lessons. We welcome discussion and questions regarding your ability to participate in these events.
  • Deadlines for turning in appropriate forms and payments must be met in order to participate in any outside competition/event. Students who turn in late forms or payments will not be allowed to participate.
  • Participation expenses will vary. These may include but are not limited to:
  1. Fees to outside event organizers
  2. Processing fees to Purdance
  3. Preparation expenses (i.e. additional lessons, extra practice sessions, costumes, makeup, hairstyling, etc.)
  4. Transportation costs to and from the event
  5. Teachers’ hourly rates/fees/expenses at the event (Pro/Am students should discuss these fees with their teacher prior to signing up for any event)
  • Purdance does everything possible to avoid excessive fees and keep costs as reasonably low as possible. It is our goal to make these events both fun and affordable.

Please no food, soft drinks or chewing gum in the studio with the exception of water. Bringing your own water bottle to class is encouraged.

Call if You’re Late

We appreciate a courtesy call to the Purdance office at (408) 444-LEAP if you anticipate being late to a class or missing a class that is part of a program.

Late Arrivals

Arriving late to class can be disruptive to other students and distract from the focus of a learning atmosphere. If you arrive 15 minutes past the start time of class, it is up to the instructors’ discretion to have you join the class or only observe.

Injuries and Illnesses

Students should keep the faculty informed of any recent illnesses, injuries, or other conditions that may interfere with their classwork.

Physical Contact

Please be advised that the study of dance involves physical contact. Instructors will often need to make hands-on contact to adjust students’ alignment and to demonstrate proper motion. To best ensure their safety physical contact between students is not permitted.

Although we love your furry friends, our primary concern is to ensure the safety and health of all our dancers and Purdance staff. We ask that you do not bring any pets into the building with the exception of licensed service animals.

Photography & Video

Private photography or videotaping of other students is strictly prohibited. Please respect the privacy and comfort of all involved and reserve your photography and videography for outside of the studio.

Please bring indoor dance shoes and change into the shoes when you arrive to the studio. Street shoes are not permitted because dirt and pebbles can create sharp, sticky and/or slippery hazards for fellow dancers.

  • Changing into a different group class can be done only through the joint authorization of the teacher whose class the student is leaving and the teacher of the class the student would like to join.
